Technophemera is a technology inspired installation by street artists Leon Reid IV and Ryan Seslow.
This project has been officially funded via Kickstarter on 8/1/2014

Concept: Technophemera highlights the speed of technology’s evolution. With new digital devices produced every minute, technology both reinvents itself and renders obsolete at an exponential rate.
Installation: The installation will be an archaeological site filled with dated computer equipment appearing as a graveyard of old hardware. The technology will be cast in concrete and burrowed in sand suggesting a fossilization process. In adding to the effect are dig site tools such as shovels, brushes, magnifying glasses and caution tape.

Location: Technophemera will be installed on the campus of LIU Post (720 Northern Blvd , Brookville, NY 11548) in the Fall of 2014 and coincide with “Concrete To Data” a public exhibition at Steinberg Museum of Art at Hillwood.
Anticipated Exhibition Period: (September 2014- April 2015)
Aproximate Size: 12ft wide x 12ft long x 8ft deep.

Student collaboration: Technophemera will be created in collaboration with LIU Post undergraduate students studying visual art and archaeology. Our goal is to expose the students to the process and challenges of creating site-specific installation art. We plan to incorporate student input into the realization of the project.
Process: “Technophemera” will involve traditional casting and moldmaking techniques including creation of rubber molds and pouring of liquid concrete. It is envisioned that functional excavation equipment found on archeological dig sites will be incorporated into the project in order to produce the feel of authenticity.
Time Capsule: We plan to bury Technophemera under the ground in hopes that it stand as a time capsule preserving the look and feel of technology hardware as it appeared at the turn of the 20th Century.
Rewards: Below is a selection of the rewards offered for your support of Technophemera. We have everything from sculpture to painting and casts of tech hardware to be used in the installation. Some items are limited in amount and will be awarded on a first-come-first-serve basis so get them while you can!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Technophemera has been pre-aproved by LIU campus, however there are challenges regarding how extensive the installation can be. It is not yet determined if it is possible to dig into the ground as illustrated. Weather conditions may also determine if Technophemera will be an outdoor installation as planned, or if it must be held indoors. What we can guarantee is that there will be an installation that holds to the concept of Technophemera as described above.
